Open-air exhibition on the former gardens of the Abbaye de Fleury.
Set end to end, the views and layouts of the abbey faithfully depict an evolution: a mediæval legacy that could still be seen in the 17th century, a gradual extension outside the limits of the original enclosure, and, in the following century, the development of buildings and gardens in the taste of the day, all of which would be swept away at the time of the French Revolution.
The Congregation of Saint Maur's taste for gardens, which are ephemeral works par excellence, has been eclipsed by their built legacy, which is clearly visible at other sites. However, in its time, that taste produced a vast corpus of which the history remains to be written, and which archæology can contribute to revealing.
