Through an exhibition, the Château de Villandry conveys the work done by two dynasties that, each after its fashion, contributed to French excellence in the art of the garden: the Vilmorin family and the Carvallo family.
The Vilmorins were a large family of learnèd botanists and seed producers from the time of Louis XV until the 20th century. Marguerite Carvallo, granddaughter of Elisabeth de Vilmorin and Marc d’Estienne d’Orves (who, for 30 years, was one of the managers of the firm Vilmorin-Andrieux et Cie.), led the team of gardeners at Villandry for over 10 years.
This exhibition also shows the role played by Ann Coleman at the side of her husband, Joachim Carvallo, in rescuing the Château de Villandry.
